Chief Fire Officer 3D: Emergency Service Delivery Responsibilities

Description:

This course provides students with a basic knowledge of the emergency service requirements related to the roles and responsibilities of a Chief Fire Officer including developing a plan for the integration of fire services resources, developing an agency resource contingency plan, evaluating incident facilities, supervising multiple resources, developing and utilizing an incident action plan, obtaining incident information to facilitate transfer of command, developing and conducting a post-incident analysis, and maintaining incident records.

Prerequisite:

Meet the educational requirements for Company Officer.

Staffing:

No backfill, holdover, or overtime is authorized.

Cost:

  • OCFA employee: Free

  • Outside agency: $140 plus a 2.45% convenience fee that will be processed on the first day of class.

DRESS CODE:

Station or Staff Uniform or business casual. No T-shirts, shorts, or sandals.

Company Officer 2D

Description:

This course provides information on conducting incident size-up, developing and implementing an initial plan of action involving single and multiunit operations for various types of emergency incidents to mitigate the situation following agency safety procedures, conducting pre-incident planning, and develop and conduct a post-incident analysis. 

*Required for OCFA FC promotional test*

PrerequisiteS:

  • ICS-200B;

  • Student meets the educational requirements for Fire Fighter II;

  • Hazardous Material Incident Commander 

Staffing:

No backfill, holdover, or overtime authorized.

DRESS CODE:

Station uniform or business casual. No sandals.

Map, Compass & GPS for Firefighters

Description:

This course is beneficial for most ICS positions. Map and compass is a prerequisite for Fire Line EMT/Paramedic and Field Observers for Orange County Fire Authority employees. Course content includes use of maps and symbols, using a compass to find your field location on a map, using a GPS receiver to locate your position on a map, establishing waypoints, track logs and mapping the perimeter of a fire. The course includes both classroom and field exercises.

*Required for Field Observer, Fireline EMT and Fireline Paramedic*

Prerequisite:

Experience on incident assignments in operations or support functions

INITIAL ATTACK INCIDENT COMMANDER

S-200

Description:

This course is designed to meet the training needs of the incident commander type 4 (ICT4). It is presented in a discussion/exercise format. The six instructional units include Foundation Skills; Intelligence Gathering and Documentation; Size Up the Incident; Develop a Plan of Action; Post-fire Activities; Evaluating Incident Objectives and Manage the Incident. Evaluation of the student is by unit tests and performance based evaluations.

Objectives:

  • Demonstrate effective foundation skills (leadership, risk management, and communications) at the ICT4 level.

  • Gather and document essential information about the incident.

  • Size up the incident, develop plan of action.

  • Manage the incident through effective leadership.

  • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate plan of action and make adjustments to the plan when necessary.

  • Conduct post fire activities.

Prerequisite:

Qualified as any single resource boss & satisfactory completion of pre-course work.
